Dr. Mark Lucas , in Canada, with a large walleye

Welcome to my first effort at blogging.  I am Dr. Mark Lucas and I am the veterinarian at Dardenne Animal Medical Centers. I have been a veterinarian for 25 years  and started Dardenne AMC  in 1983. I mostly treat dogs and cats but do see alot of reptiles, birds and other exotics. I am very excited to share my experiences, cases and opinions on this blog. I have done TV, and radio as well as write a newpaper article , but I want to use this blog to give a more personal view of myself and a veterinary hospital.  We are also starting blogs for obedience, grooming and boarding so you should have plenty to read and share. I would encourage comments and opinions , so stay tuned and check often.

They produce a foul smelling fluid that marks territory, deters presetors and tells information to otherdogs pr cats. They can get impacted causing the prt to scoot. They can even get infected and abscess requiring surgery. Here is a pictureof the south end of a north facing Jack Russel with a sever and painful abscess.

Here are some photos of a cranial cruciate ligament repair surgery on a standard schnauzer.  This surgery is done with a carbon dioxide laser, which virtually prevents all bleeding. This makes the surgery quicker and much easier. The laser also seals nerve  endings which decrease pain and speeds healing.
