Don’t Eat rags

10 year old Siberian husky that has eaten cloth before came in, on emergency, after being lethargic and not wanting to eat or drink for 3 days. You can see the barium coated rag in the stomach. In surgery we took rag material from the stomach and two areas of the small intestine. Sebastian is recovering well.

Anal gland Abscess

I know this is not the best topic but common. Anal glands are located under the tail on dogs and cats. They produce a foul smelling fluid that marks territory, deters presetors and tells information to otherdogs pr cats. They can get impacted causing the prt to scoot. They can even get infected and abscess requiring surgery. Here is a pictureof the south end of a north facing Jack Russel with a sever and painful abscess.

CYSTIC OVARY

This is an ovarian cyst from a 15 year old dog with pyometra.

These cysts produce estrogen which causes problems as well.

ThhisThis is an excellant example of medial butressing when a knee has ongoing pathology. the”lump” is the body’s attempt to place scar tissue to stablilize the unstable joint.

Here are some photos of a cranial cruciate ligament repair surgery on a standard schnauzer. This surgery is done with a carbon dioxide laser, which virtually prevents all bleeding. This makes the surgery quicker and much easier. The laser also seals nerve endings which decrease pain and speeds healing.

Lipoma

Here are the photos of the lipoma ( tumor of fat cells) that was removed and the resulting closed sutures. The plastic material is a Penrose Drain that will allow blister like fluid to drain from the wound as it heals.
